Soke, Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi

Soke Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi was born Dec 2, 1931 in Noda City, Japan. He began training in the martial arts at the age of 7. In the late 1950’s early 1960’s he was introduced to a Budo master named Toshitsugu Takamatsu, 33rd Soke (d. 1972).

Inspired by Takamatsu’s Budo presence, Hatsumi continued to make weekend trips across Japan to receive the personal training.

In the early 70’s Hatsumi was pronounced the heir of the 9 traditional ryuha’s. With respects to Takamatsu, Hatsumi named the collaboration of the 9 ryuha as the Bujinkan. Please click on the link below for more information on both Soke Hatsumi and Soke Takamatsu.
